When Your Body Says “Slow Down” Before Your Mind Does

By Tina, Clinical Nurse Hypnotherapist & Coach

There’s a moment, we can feel it when your body whispers “slow down” long before your mind is willing to admit you’re tired. It might be a tight breath or a heavy step, a foggy thought, or that familiar feeling of being slightly out of sync with yourself. The interesting thing is most of us are absolute experts at ignoring it.

We have trained our minds to push on. Our bodies however didn’t get the memo.

Your Body Knows Before You Do

Our body sends signals long before your brain catches up and because we’re so used to overriding ourselves, we can miss them or to be honest ignore them.

You might notice:

  • your shoulders creeping up towards your ears

  • your breath getting shallow

  • your more snappy and your patience is thin for no real reason

  • your brain feeling like it’s wading through treacle

  • your energy dipping even though you “should” be fine

  • that quiet “I can’t do one more thing” feeling

None of this means you’re failing, your just a fellow human with a brain.

Why do we ignore the signs ?

Most of us were taught to keep going, to be reliable and strong, to be the person who doesn’t drop the ball. Somewhere along the way, we learned to trust our mind more than our body, even though the body is usually the one telling the truth.

You override tiredness because, you don’t want to let anyone down and you think you think you should be able to cope. Maybe in the past you’ve been praised for pushing through, and you’re used to being the one who “just gets on with it”. Slowing down can feel unfamiliar, maybe even uncomfortable. But your body isn’t trying to stop you. It’s trying to protect you.

Slowing down doesn’t mean dropping everything and lying on a beach (although, honestly, that sounds lovely, especially when its hot hot hot ). It simply means noticing what your body is telling you and responding with a bit more kindness.

Things you might like to try

  • taking a proper breath instead of a rushed one

  • choosing the easier option when you’re stretched

  • stepping outside for two minutes of fresh air

  • letting yourself finish one thing before starting another

  • saying “not today” without apologising

  • giving yourself permission to be human, not superhuman

How Hypnotherapy Helps You Tune In

Hypnotherapy can help you reconnect with your body’s signals — not in a mystical woo woo, way. In a very practical, nervous‑system‑friendly way, by  creating a quieter space inside your mind where you can actually hear yourself again. This can result in you being more aware of their limits, calmer and less reactive, more connected to what their body needs and able to choose from intention rather than pressure. Less stuck in “push through” mode

It’s gentle, it’s supportive, and it helps you come back to yourself.

A Gentle Invitation
